SOS Sahel

Endowment Fund

The Phitrust Endowment Fund finances and supports social entrepreneurs who develop a project with a social purpose while using the management methods of the classical economy. It was created to identify, validate, finance and support "non-profit" projects run by social entrepreneurs.

SOS Sahel

– Disadvantaged people in three rural areas near Bamako receive income from wood cutting. This income is insufficient, in addition to contributing to serious environmental damage.

From 2005 to 2008, the SOS Sahel association ran a program to support the development of income-generating activities to replace wood cutting related to the shea butter industry, irrigated crops and farming of short life-cycle crops.

The beneficiaries of the program:
– 1800 women via the shea butter activity
– 250 people through the development of micro- irrigated crops
– 150 people through micro-farming activities of short life-cycle crops were able to significantly increase their revenues, all the while preserving the environment

The projects benefited 43 000 inhabitants.
