March 31st, 2020
In this troubled and unprecedented period, the priorities and emergencies of all of us will focus on the health of loved ones, the care of the most vulnerable and the maintenance of economic activities.
It is a time when many companies have to change their business models, question their shareholders in upcoming or postponed GAs, and make key decisions on dividend policy in light of this crisis.
In this pivotal period of challenging our models, we share the study that we were supposed to comment during our March 17th conference on shareholder engagement.
We want to maintain the link with all those who believe that shareholders have, more than ever, a role to play in supporting the transition of the business model of companies. And thus give them food for thought for future decisions.
We send all our messages of encouragement to you and your teams!
And what if we entered the era of committed shareholders! For more than 15 years, Phitrust has been committed to enhance the strategic governance and the environmental and social practices of large listed companies. We are convinced that the companies most attentive to these issues will be the best performing on the long term.
What future actions can we take at a time when the line between active shareholders and activists seems difficult to distinguish? What role can minority shareholders play? Will the application of the European Directive “Shareholder rights” change the situation? How can we balance the profitability / risk equation and escape from the schizophrenia in which investors are? These questions are even more crucial as we can seize a new opportunity : strengthening the role of shareholders who are engaged in the transformation of the business model of companies.
To take these constructive and courageous commitments to next levels in the future, we wanted to update you on our progress and above all, highlight some decisive challenges. We have therefore decided to leave a lot of room for those around us. May they all be thanked for it!
